Pregnancy and childbirth are incredible miracles, and we would love to be a part of your story at this time in your life.
Drs. Michael and Ericka Montelione at Premier Chiropractic utilizes gentle and precise chiropractic adjustments to bring your spine into proper alignment and encourage proper body function. This includes helping women who are struggling with infertility, those who are pregnant and hoping for a particular birthing situation or relief from some pregnancy discomforts, or a new mom who is healing and recovering from childbirth.
If you have a newborn, we know you have a unique birthing story and likely some concerns about your own body or your sweet new baby. Regardless of the type of delivery you had, the birthing process can be incredibly rough on a newborn’s spine, and spinal misalignments in a newborn can lead to several short-term and long-term issues. Seeking chiropractic care for your new bundle of joy will bring many health benefits both now and in the future.
Helping with Fertility
If you have been diagnosed with infertility or if you’re simply hoping to improve your chances of conceiving, chiropractic care is a great option when you need help with fertility. A spinal misalignment can negatively impact your reproductive function and the nerves connected to it.
When you receive consistent chiropractic adjustments from Drs. Michael and Ericka, your menstrual cycle is more likely to regulate, leading to increased fertility.
Care During Pregnancy
Pregnancy is an incredible time, but it can also be very challenging. A pregnant woman’s body is ever-changing, and spinal misalignments can happen more easily during pregnancy because of hormones that lead to loose ligaments throughout the body. Pregnancy discomforts come with the territory, but women who seek chiropractic care during pregnancy are less likely to suffer from back pain, restless leg syndrome, swollen limbs, and other common issues. Our adjustments to your spine improve the nerve function connected to the areas of your body. Keeping your spine aligned will ensure your entire body is balanced and functioning properly, allowing for more room for your developing baby to grow. A properly aligned pelvis also helps your body prepare for childbirth, and can even reduce the pain and time in labor.
Post-Pregnancy Routines
After you give birth, you’re likely exhausted, sore, and incredibly emotional. While time will help each of those to some extent, chiropractic care after you give birth will help even more. The birthing process can be very intense, and the body often needs a little additional help in healing afterward. Chiropractic care invigorates your body’s natural healing abilities and helps you experience body restoration, revived energy levels, and hormone and emotional regulation.
Chiropractic Care for Newborns
While the birthing process is natural and normal, it can still be difficult on the baby. Baby’s heads are often twisted or pulled during delivery, leading to spinal misalignments that can result in colic, sleep problems, feeding problems, and more if not corrected. When a newborn’s spine is not cared for properly, they can experience the above issues within days, weeks, or months, but they can also experience balance problems, acid reflux, and behavioral problems later in life as well.
Certification
Dr. Ericka is a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and has completed numerous hours in specialized pediatric training. She is awaiting certification from the ICPA after completion of 2 research modules and a written exam which is currently being completed. She is the second doctor in the greater Nashville area to achieve this rigorous certification making her expertise significant. She is also certified in Webster’s technique, a technique specifically crafted for the needs of pregnant women. It focuses on the proper alignment of the pelvis which optimizes the room for the developing fetus and promotes an easier birth. Dr. Mike is actively working toward certification as well.
Safety and Effectiveness
Many envision that infants and children receive the same amplitude of an adjustment an adult would, which is false. The adjustments given to an infant spine are given with the same pressure it would take for your finger to break the skin on a ripe tomato. It is very gentle and very effective. “The Safety and Effectiveness of Pediatric Chiropractic: A Survey of Chiropractors and Parents in a Practice- Based Research Network” found chiropractic care for children is safe and effective. In their study they found that an adverse event is a .00055% of negative reaction, and further the negative reactions reported were minor discomfort following the adjustment each of which readily resolved.
Over 90% of the chiropractors and parents in the study found an adjustment-related improvement with respect to the children’s presenting complaints. Reports of better sleeping patterns, improved behavior and robust immune systems were made while under chiropractic care. The research for chiropractic and it’s effectiveness in children is continuously growing as it’s results are profound.
